Encouraging Collaboration Between Women in Art and the Social Impact of the Project with a Focus on Cultural Management

21 September, 2023

In a place where second chances are a treasure, we open the door to an invaluable ally: creativity.

We held our first art workshop for a group of residents at the Santa Margarita Youth Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Center, using the Art Deck as the basic tool.

Ten girls were selected to embark on a journey of self-discovery, expression, and creativity, along with our ambassadors from Women in Art: TamikiPeiperjart y Seventh Color.

The artists shared their experiences as visual creatives and designers, the projects they had worked on, and their journey to becoming professionals in the art world. We wanted to show the girls that art is not only a deep form of expression but also an open door to an honest future full of possibilities—a legitimate way to make a living. This open dialogue created a bridge of connection between the young women and the artists.

The second phase began with an icebreaker activity. With paper and pencil in hand, the participants let their creativity flow through doodles and geometric shapes. The artists then gave them drawing tips, and together they ventured into artistic creation.

The goal of the creative phase was to visualize where they saw themselves in five years. This self-reflection exercise was an act of courage and determination on the part of the girls.

They shared their favorite foods, told us about their preferred TV shows and animes, and asked the artists about drawing techniques while they drew and explored. The atmosphere really filled with enthusiasm, excitement, and empathy.

The workshop was not just about art, but also about building genuine connections and having the artists—Women in Art—become role models in the world of urban and visual art for the residents of the Santa Margarita Center.

In the end, the girls shared their artworks, explained them, and revealed their feelings. Their drawings told deep stories: the longing to be close to their families, the nostalgia for their pets, and the desire to reconnect with nature. They also expressed their dreams, what they wanted to study, and what they hoped to do once they left the center.

We learned that art can also be a tool for healing and transformation.

This experience reminds us of the importance of creating and bringing creative workshops or actions to places like this, so that more people in vulnerable situations can reconnect with their passions and find their voice through art.
